Bayern Munich ‘make major call on Erik ten Hag future’

Bayern Munich are no longer considering appointing Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as their next head coach, according to a report.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Bayern Munich are reportedly no longer considering appointing Erik ten Hag as their next head coach.

The Bundesliga champions are currently searching for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel, with the German set to leave Allianz Arena at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

A recent report claimed that Ten Hag was in the frame to replace Tuchel, with the Dutchman said to be admired by a number of senior figures at the German club.

However, according to German journalist Christian Falk, Ten Hag is no longer viewed as a candidate to become Bayern’s next manager.

Falk claims that discussions had taken place with Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl, but the talks will not progress any further, with the European giants deciding against a move for the 54-year-old.

Bayern ‘no longer interested in appointing Erik ten Hag’

Ten Hag was in charge of Bayern’s second team between 2013 and 2015, and a return to the club was seemingly a possibility this summer, with his future at Manchester United uncertain.

The Dutchman is expected to remain in charge of the 20-time English champions for their final four matches of the campaign against Arsenal, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City.

However, it has been claimed that Ten Hag will be sacked after the FA Cup final on May 25.

Bayern have also been linked with Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi, but the German outfit have allegedly decided against paying the £12m release clause in his contract.

Xabi Alonso had also been viewed as a leading target, but the Spaniard has agreed to remain in charge of Bayer Leverkusen for at least one more season.

Hansi Flick ‘seen as favourite to replace Thomas Tuchel’

Hansi Flick is now regarded as the favourite to replace Tuchel at the helm this summer, with the German expected to take charge of Bayern for the second time.

The 59-year-old previously managed the Bundesliga giants between 2019 and 2021, winning seven trophies in total, including two league titles, one German Cup and the Champions League.

Flick has been without a job since leaving Germany last year, and he had been linked with the Barcelona job before it was confirmed that Xavi would be remaining as head coach.

Zinedine Zidane is also an outsider for the position, with the Frenchman, who has been without a position since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, believed to be keen to return to management.
