SURE ODDS BANNER

Huddersfield Town have recorded a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City, all but confirming relegation from the Championship.

The Terriers and Blues went into Saturday’s fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium occupying 23rd and 22nd position in the standings, both teams aware that defeat could lead to a drop into the second tier.

Although the game in Yorkshire finished one goal piece, Sheffield Wednesday‘s 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion has left Huddersfield on the brink.

While Huddersfield sit three points adrift of Plymouth Argyle with one game remaining, an inferior goal of 15 means that Andre Breitenreiter‘s side have effectively been relegated.

Birmingham took the lead just before the half-time whistle, Koji Miyoshi getting on the scoresheet for his fifth goal of the season.

Rhys Healey was able to equalise for Huddersfield two minutes after the restart, but the home side were unable to force a winning goal.

As for Birmingham, they sit one point adrift of Plymouth, yet also possessing an inferior goal difference of four in comparison to the Pilgrims.

Plymouth would suffer a late 1-0 defeat at Millwall, while Sheffield Wednesday’s poor goal difference means that they remain in the mix for the final relegation spot despite sitting three points above Birmingham.

Blackburn Rovers sit on the same points as Sheffield Wednesday, albeit with a better goal difference, after a potentially-decisive goalless draw with Coventry City.

Meanwhile, nothing was decided in terms of the playoffs, Norwich only drawing 2-2 with Swansea City to move one point clear of West Brom after the Baggies’ 3-0 defeat at Hillsborough.

Hull City can move level on points with sixth-placed West Brom and one point adrift of the Canaries if they can overcome Ipswich Town on Saturday night.
