Fulham’s Joao Palhinha addresses failed Bayern Munich move

Joao Palhinha addresses a dramatic final day of the summer transfer window, where his proposed move to Bayern Munich fell through.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Fulham midfield Joao Palhinha has admitted he is unsure if a move to Bayern Munich will happen in the future.

Palhinha, who joined the Cottagers in 2022, was on the verge of joining the German champions on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Although Palhinha made the trip to Germany with a view to completing a move, the deal ultimately collapsed and he subsequently returned to West London.

The 28-year-old subsequently put pen to paper on a new long-term deal, extending his contract with Fulham until June 2028 with an option for the club to extend by a further year.

Despite agreeing a new deal with the club, Palhinha continues to be linked with a transfer to Bayern ahead of the January transfer window.

With uncertainty surrounding his future, he has now addressed the failed deadline-day move and admitted he is unsure whether a transfer to Bayern will come to fruition.

“I feel I’m content because I’m playing. I’m playing, I’m doing my job, I’m focused here,” Palhinha told the Fulham Fix podcast.

“I had the opportunity a couple of months ago when this happened, it’s something that nobody can point the finger to me and say that you don’t respect, it never happened because I always did my work here.

“I respect everyone, the staff, my teammates, my history with the club because I don’t want to screw up what I’ve built here. They’ve given me a lot of effort.

“Of Course, I don’t want to screw it up. But I can’t lie, of course, it’s the opportunity of my life that happened. For me, if something like Bayern happens in your life, you can’t think of anything else.

“In football, we are always fighting to achieve. For me, I grew up to dream of these kind of opportunities. I don’t know if it’s going to happen again or not.

“I just want to make my job like I’ve been doing, keep improving because I know I have much more to improve and what needs to happen, it’s going to happen.

“I don’t like to think about the past because life has showed me that everything in my life has happened for some reason.”

Palhinha has featured regularly for the Cottagers this season, appearing in 10 of the club’s 13 Premier League matches.

The Portuguese midfielder is expected to be involved when Fulham make the trip to Anfield for Sunday’s tricky fixture. against Liverpool.
