Roy Hodgson provides injury update on Eberechi Eze, Cheick Doucoure

Roy Hodgson provides an injury update after both Eberechi Eze and Cheick Doucoure were forced off in Crystal Palace’s defeat at Luton Town.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Roy Hodgson has provided updates on the injuries suffered by Eberechi Eze and Cheick Doucoure in Crystal Palace‘s 2-1 defeat at Luton Town.

Both players were subbed off early in the second half with the scoreline still goalless, as Palace then went on to lose to the newly-promoted side.

The Eagles were beaten by a late Jacob Brown goal at Kenilworth Road, as Luton earned their first-ever home victory in the Premier League.

Eze limped off in the early stages of the second half and Hodgson later revealed it was an ankle problem that forced him to be substituted, and he is set to have a scan on it in the coming days.

The England international has only recently returned to the Palace side after missing all of October’s action.

On his first start since making his comeback from a hamstring injury, Eze scored in Palace’s home defeat to Everton last time out, but only lasted 48 minutes at Luton.

The issue may not be too alarming though, as BBC reporter Nick Godwin spoke to Eze as he left Kenilworth Road about the extent of his injury, to which the player responded with: “I’ll be alright”.

The more serious issue regards Doucoure though, as the midfielder went down unchallenged early in the second half.

After being placed on a stretcher, the 23-year-old was heard screaming in pain, with his hands over his face, before being replaced by Will Hughes.

Doucoure was then seen leaving the stadium hobbling on crutches, with his left leg in a protective boot.

Hodgson revealed post-match that last season’s Player of the Year has suffered a serious injury and could be sidelined for quite some time.

The manager said: “[Doucoure] is not going to be out for a short period of time.”

Speaking about both issues, Hodgson claimed “They are two of our more important players, so of course, it is devastating news.”

Palace’s defeat sees them remain 13th in the Premier League table, missing the chance to move into the top half.

Hodgson takes his side to West Ham United in their next league outing, hoping to recover from this weekend’s defeat next Sunday.
