Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea reportedly met with Segunda Division outfit Eldense last week to discuss a possible move to the club on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old remains a free agent, having departed Man United at the end of June, with the Red Devils deciding against handing him a new contract.
De Gea was initially expected to pen a deal on reduced wages at Old Trafford, but the club are believed to have withdrawn their offer at a late stage, having identified Andre Onana as their new number one.
There have recently been claims that the Spaniard could return to Man United on a short-term basis, with Onana expected to represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
However, it is believed that a move back to the 20-time English champions is highly unlikely due to the manner of his exit, with his relationship with the club now fractured.

Real Betis have recently been linked with De Gea, but the La Liga club’s manager Manuel Pellegrini has played down suggestions that the experienced goalkeeper could move to Seville.
A number of Saudi Arabian clubs are also thought to be interested, but it is believed that the stopper wants to continue his career in Europe.
According to Onda Cero, De Gea met with Eldense chiefs last week to discuss a potential move to the club.
The report claims that the goalkeeper is also interested in potentially investing in the Segunda Division outfit, with their president Pascual Perez prepared to sell his majority stake.

Eldense were playing in the fourth tier of Spanish football as recently as 2021-22, but back-to-back promotions have seen them advance to the division behind La Liga.
Fernando Estevez‘s side are on a run of four straight wins in all competitions, meanwhile, and they currently sit in 11th position in their domestic table ahead of this weekend’s clash with Mirandes.
De Gea last played in Spain for Atletico Madrid, representing the club on 84 occasions between 2009 and 2011 before making the move to Man United.
The goalkeeper featured on 545 occasions for the Red Devils in all competitions, and he won the Golden Glove in the Premier League last season, keeping 17 clean sheets in the division.
De Gea was criticised for a string of high-profile errors, though, and Man United ultimately decided against handing him a new contract.
