Sports Mole looks at how Real Sociedad could line up in Sunday’s La Liga clash with Barcelona.
Real Sociedad head coach Imanol Alguacil will include the in-demand Martin Zubimendi in his starting side for Sunday’s La Liga game against Barcelona, and there are once again expected to be eyes on the Spain international.
Zubimendi famously turned down the chance to move to Liverpool during the recent transfer window, with the defensive midfielder remaining loyal to his Basque club.
There remains a host of speculation surrounding the Euro 2024 winner’s future, though, with Barcelona one of the clubs believed to be keeping an eye on him ahead of a potential move in 2025.
Another of Spain’s heroes from Euro 2024 will feature for the home side here, with Mikel Oyarzabal expected to operate at the tip of the attack, with Sergi Gomez moving into a wide position.
Real Sociedad have a number of injury issues heading into this match, with Nayef Aguerd, Ander Barrenetxea, Benat Turrientes, Pablo Marin, Hamari Traore and Arsen Zakharyan all unavailable for selection.
Head coach Alguacil will make changes from the side that took to the field against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday night, with Brais Mendez and Aritz Elustondo expected to come into the XI.
Orri Oskarsson could be the player to miss out in the final third of the field, with the 20-year-old potentially being asked to make a contribution off the bench against the team comfortably at the top of the La Liga table.
Real Sociedad possible starting lineup: Remiro; Aramburu, Zubeldia, Elustondo, J Lopez; Mendez, Zubimendi, Sucic; Kubo, Oyarzabal, Gomez
