Manchester City goalkeeper pulls out of the Brazil squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has withdrawn from the Brazil squad due to injury.

Ederson was one of three goalkeepers included in Fernando Diniz‘s initial squad alongside Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Botafago’s Lucas Perri.

However, he has now been forced to pull out after sustaining a foot injury in Man City’s 4-4 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Brazil have subsequently called up Athletic Paranaense shot-stopper Bento as Ederson’s replacement for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.

The injury issue will come as a blow to Ederson, who has managed to establish himself as Brazil’s first-choice goalkeeper in the current qualifying campaign.

The 30-year-old featured in all four of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but he is now set to relinquish his place to Alisson.

In addition to Ederson, Diniz is also unable to call upon Casemiro, Neymar and Richarlison, while Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus is a major doubt.

Jesus has missed Arsenal’s last five matches with a hamstring injury, and he will now be assessed by Brazil’s medical staff before a final decision is made on his availability.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola will hope Ederson’s injury issue is not too serious, with the Citizens set to play Liverpool on November 25.

The Man City manager is already having to cope with a number of injury concerns, including Netherlands international Nathan Ake.

The defender, who sat out Sunday’s draw with Chelsea, was forced to withdrew from the Dutch squad for their final two Euro 2024 qualifying games.

Ake adds to Man City’s defensive injury woes, with John Stones currently nursing a muscle injury after being forced off in the recent 3-0 Champions League win over Young Boys.

Guardiola remains without long-term absentee Kevin De Bruyne, who continues to recover from a hamstring issue, while Sergio Gomez is currently sidelined with an ankle problem.
