Liverpool lineup vs. Bayer Leverkusen: Predicted XI for Champions League clash

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Liverpool could line up for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen at Anfield.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Liverpool boss Arne Slot will likely be forced into a defensive alteration for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen at Anfield.

The Reds lost Ibrahima Konate to an arm injury in Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Brighton & Hove Albion; the Frenchman was in visible distress as he came off using his shirt as a makeshift sling.

Slot it still waiting to learn just how serious Konate’s problem is, but he will surely have to cope without the Frenchman against the Bundesliga champions, where Joe Gomez should plug the gap in defence.

Konate should be one of five Liverpool absentees for Tuesday’s game, as none of Alisson Becker (hamstring), Harvey Elliott (foot), Federico Chiesa (fitness) or Diogo Jota (abdominal) will return this side of the international break.

Gomez for Konate might be one of two alterations in store for the hosts at the back, as a well-rested Andrew Robertson will surely displace Kostas Tsimikas, despite the Greek’s man-of-the-match display at the weekend.

Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch should be in no danger of losing their places in midfield, but Curtis Jones is pushing to displace Dominik Szoboszlai, while Luis Diaz for Cody Gakpo is another like-for-like swap.

However, there should be no respite for Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, the latter of whom could become the first player since Ruud van Nistelrooy in 2003 to score in six straight Champions League home matches for an English club.

Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Jones, Diaz; Nunez
