Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Chelsea could line up for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will be expected to change his entire team for Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Blues have experienced contrasting results against Newcastle United over the past week, defeating the Magpies 2-1 in the top flight before a 2-0 EFL Cup last-16 exit to Eddie Howe‘s men.
However, Maresca unsurprisingly fielded his B-team for the latter contest and will now revert to his strongest possible selection for Sunday’s game, which Jadon Sancho (ineligible) and Omari Kellyman (hamstring) will sit out.
With Sancho unable to face his parent club and out of favour anyway, Pedro Neto is poised to start on the left flank, as Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke also form a first-choice attacking quartet.
Enzo Fernandez was singled out for criticism in midweek, and the Argentina international should now make way for the returning Romeo Lavia, while Moises Caicedo is also set to return to the middle of the park.
Captain Reece James has quickly settled back into the Blues’ rearguard since recovering from his latest hamstring problem and will occupy one of the full-back roles at Old Trafford, where Malo Gusto should also bomb up and down the flanks.
After Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile‘s horror shows at Newcastle, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana will return to centre-back duties in front of number one Robert Sanchez.
Chelsea possible starting lineup:
Sanchez; James, Fofana, Colwill, Gusto; Caicedo, Lavia; Madueke, Palmer, Neto; Jackson
