Ruben Amorim to Man United ‘confirmed’: Contract details, release clause, arrival date

Sports Mole looks at the details surrounding Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United move, including the contract details, release clause and his arrival date.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United have reportedly come to an agreement with Sporting Lisbon over a deal for Ruben Amorim, with the Portuguese set to become Erik ten Hag‘s permanent replacement at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag lost his job at Old Trafford on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after the Red Devils had been beaten 2-1 at West Ham United in the Premier League.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was immediately placed in charge on an interim basis, and the Dutchman led the team to a 5-2 success over Leicester City in the last-16 stage of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

However, there will be a further change in the dug-out, with Amorim set to arrive from Sporting, and an announcement from both clubs confirming the deal is expected to be made on Thursday.

Amorim’s contract details and release clause

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Amorim will sign a contract at Old Trafford until June 2027, while his release clause of €10m (£8.3m) has been activated.

Man United will allegedly pay a further €1m (£840,000) for his staff, though, and to erase the 30-day notice period that is present in his contract with the Green and Whites.

Coaches Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido and Jorge Vital are set to follow Amorim to Old Trafford, in addition to sports scientists Paulo Barreira and Emanuel Ferro, so Van Nistelrooy’s future at the club is in severe doubt.

Van Nistelrooy has expressed a desire to remain at Old Trafford as part of the new set-up, but it remains to be seen whether there is a spot for the Dutchman, who arrived as Ten Hag’s assistant over the summer.

When will Amorim arrive at Man United?

There has been much speculation surrounding Amorim’s arrival date, but according to Romano, he will not be moving to Man United until the November international break, with Sporting pushing hard to prevent him from leaving immediately.

As a result, the 39-year-old is set to manage Sporting’s next three matches against Estrela, Manchester City and Braga, with the final fixture taking place on November 10 ahead of the international break.

Amorim is then set to begin coaching the Red Devils players who are not selected for their international teams during the break, with his first game in charge of Man United expected to be their trip to Ipswich Town on November 24.

The Red Devils will play another three times before the international break, starting with Sunday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea, while they will also take on PAOK (Europa League) and Leicester (Premier League) under Van Nistelrooy’s guidance.
