Barcelona transfer news: Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich addresses Camp Nou links

Joshua Kimmich leaves the door open to an exit from Bayern Munich amid suggestions that Barcelona are keen to sign him on a free transfer.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Joshua Kimmich has left the door open to departing Bayern Munich next summer, with the Germany international revealing that he is ‘not ruling out any possibilities’.

The 29-year-old’s contract at Allianz Arena is due to expire at the end of June, and there is currently a host of speculation surrounding his future, with a number of clubs said to be keen on his services.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United are all believed to be interested in bringing Kimmich to the Premier League, while Barcelona are also being linked with the experienced midfielder.

A recent report claimed that Bayern are now confident of agreeing a new deal with Kimmich, who has been in impressive form for Vincent Kompany‘s side in the early stages of the 2024-25 campaign.

However, the midfielder has insisted that everything is currently open regarding his future, as he prepares to lock horns with Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

“In football, you can never make the mistake of ruling out possibilities. Now, to answer directly, I’m not thinking about it at this moment, but in football, you should never rule anything out,” Kimmich told reporters.

The German was also asked about coming up against Barcelona boss Hansi Flick on Wednesday, having played under the 59-year-old for both Bayern and Germany.

“It’s surely strange to play against him (Flick). It’s a special moment, it’s always special to play against Barca. In recent years, we’ve played against them quite a few times. It will be interesting to reunite with Hansi, and we’re excited about it,” he added.

“As I just said, playing against Barca is always something very special. I’ve been linked with Barca several times, but it’s not more special because of that. It’s special because it’s a very important club, with a very rich and successful tradition, and with a very good team.”

Kimmich coy on Bayern contract talks

After again being pressed on a possible departure from Bayern, Kimmich said: “Everyone knows, what I discuss with the club is an internal matter, I don’t share it with everyone.”

The German has made 10 appearances for his Munich club this season, providing three assists, while he has now represented his current side on 400 occasions in all competitions, scoring 42 goals and registering 107 assists.

Earlier this year, it looked almost certain that this would be his final campaign with Bayern, but the situation has now seemingly changed since Kompany’s arrival as head coach.

Kimmich is still believed to be open to a fresh challenge at this stage of his career, though, and it remains to be seen whether a new contract can be agreed with the German giants, who are bidding to reclaim the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen during the 2024-25 campaign.
