Ipswich Town transfer news: Tractors boys interested in 21-time international?

Ipswich Town are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell in January, with the left-back desperate to secure first-team football.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Ipswich Town are reportedly interested in signing out-of-favour Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell.

The 27-year-old has been on the fringes of Enzo Maresca‘s plans at Stamford Bridge since the Italian joined the Blues over the summer.

Chilwell has featured in just the single competitive match for Chelsea this season so far, a 5-0 thumping of Barrow in the third round of the EFL Cup on September 24.

Since making the switch from Leicester City to the Blues in August 2020, Chilwell has featured on 107 occasions for the club, scoring nine times.

The 21-time England international finds himself firmly behind the likes of Malo Gusto and Euro 2024 winner Marc Cucurella in the full-back pecking order.

Ipswich keen on Chilwell deal?

According to journalist Simon Phillips via FootballFanCast, a new update has emerged on the future of Chelsea’s Chilwell ahead of the January window.

The report claims that the 27-year-old is wanted by newly-promoted Ipswich, who are battling to remain in the Premier League following promotion last season.

It is understood that the Tractor Boys are among the most keen on a New Year switch for Chilwell, who has not played for Chelsea in weeks.

As well as Kieran McKenna‘s side, there is also said to be further Premier League interest from Manchester United, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

With Chilwell having the same agent as Ipswich stars Liam Delap, Conor Chaplin and Kalvin Phillips, the Tractor Boys are hopeful of completing a deal in early 2025.

Continental competition for Chilwell

Alongside the aforementioned Premier League quartet, there is believed to be interest from Italy for Chelsea’s Chilwell, namely Serie A challengers Napoli.

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are also monitoring Chillwell’s situation, meaning that it appears unlikely that the left-back will rock up at Portman Road in January.

That being said, Chilwell is supposedly desperate for regular first-team football again in order to cement himself as part of Thomas Tuchel‘s England plans approaching the 2026 World Cup.

Such ambitions could lead to the ex-Leicester star accepting a humbling offer from the Tractor Boys, who are set to fight against relegation until the final day of the term.
