Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano delivers update on Jorginho’s Arsenal future

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says that experienced midfielder Jorginho is ‘fully focused’ on Arsenal amid the speculation surrounding his future.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has said that Jorginho is ‘fully focused’ on Arsenal amid suggestions that the experienced midfielder could leave the Emirates Stadium in 2025.

The 32-year-old has a contract with the Gunners until next summer, with the option of a further 12 months, but there is currently widespread speculation surrounding his future in North London.

There is believed to be strong Saudi Arabian interest in the Italian, while there have also been claims that he could retire as a player at the end of this season to become part of Arsenal’s coaching staff.

However, Romano has said that no firm decisions have been made over Jorginho’s future, with the midfielder “only thinking about this season”.

“The situation is that Jorginho is only thinking about this season. It’s an important season for Arsenal, I don’t think all these links for Jorgi, [William] Saliba etc, are genuine and are good for the club… it’s only the beginning of October, the season started just 50 days ago,” Romano told CaughtOffside.

Romano provides Jorginho update amid exit rumours

“Jorginho’s full focus is on present, on Arsenal, not on moving into coaching and not on making the move to Saudi.”

Jorginho is not considered to be a starter by Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta, but he has made four appearances in all competitions this season, including two outings in the Premier League.

The Gunners are set to fight on four fronts this season, with the North London outfit targeting silverware in the Premier League, Champions League, EFL Cup and FA Cup.

As a result, it would be a surprise to see the Italian leave in January, but an exit next summer does appear likely, with the midfielder either continuing his professional career in Saudi Arabia or retiring as a player to become a coach.

Jorginho hails Arteta as Arsenal go in search of glory

Last month, Jorginho paid tribute to Arsenal boss Arteta for the winning mentality that has been brought to the club.

“The mentality now is different because you can see the hunger of wanting to win,” he told reporters. “The way you train every day, the information you have – even pictures at the training ground. Everything’s about winning.

“It’s really good as Mikel put up all these messages you see. It gets into your mind when you keep seeing them and you start to believe it. Then you get into the habit. You have the motivation and all we want to do is win.”

Arsenal are on a run of four straight wins in all competitions, including a 3-1 success over Southampton in the Premier League before the international break, which left them in third spot in the table.

The Gunners will return to action away to Bournemouth on October 19, while they will also tackle Shakhtar Donetsk, Liverpool and Preston North End before the end of the month.
