PSG ‘targeting’ top Premier League goalkeeper as Gianluigi Donnarumma replacement

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly eyeing up Manchester City and Brazil goalkeeper Ederson as a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma during the summer transfer window.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson as a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The 31-year-old has been a key figure for the Citizens in between the sticks since making the high-profile switch from Benfica to the blue side of Manchester during the summer of 2017.

Ederson has played over 300 matches for Pep Guardiola‘s troops, firmly cementing his place as first-choice stopper for the English powerhouses.

The Brazil international has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at the Etihad, winning six Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, two FA Cups and one Champions League title.

With Man City faltering in defence at the beginning of the 2024-25 term, Ederson has only kept one clean sheet in his opening seven Premier League appearances.

PSG want Man City’s Ederson?

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, PSG are targeting the acquisition of a new first-choice goalkeeper at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.

The report states that the French champions are keen on securing the services of Man City star Ederson during the next summer transfer window.

It is understood that Les Parisiens are looking for an upgrade in between the sticks, meaning that Italy international Donnarumma could lose his spot in the side.

Ederson will enter the final year of his Man City contract next summer, meaning that the Citizens could be willing to earn what they can off the sale of the Brazilian.

The 31-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from Guardiola’s side over the summer, with Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli interested in the shot-stopper.

Life for Man City after Ederson

A stalwart at the back for Man City during a success-laden era under the expert stewardship of Guardiola, it is hard to imagine anyone other than Ederson being the first-choice goalkeeper at the Etihad.

That being said, it is clearly approaching the end of the 31-year-old’s stay on the blue side of Manchester, meaning that the Premier League champions need to prepare for the future.

The Citizens are supposedly doing just that, joining Newcastle United and one other club in the pursuit of Lille ‘keeper Lucas Chevalier.

There is also a case for Stefan Ortega‘s ability to step up and take the first-choice title in net following the departure of Ederson, although it is likely that Guardiola will demand a reinforcement from the transfer market.
