SURE ODDS BANNER

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has provided a positive injury update on Richarlison ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Richarlison would have been hoping to enjoy an injury-free season after struggling with a variety of physical issues last term.

Unfortunately for the Brazilian, he has been restricted to just two appearances in the opening stages of the 2024-25 season.

Richarlison featured as a substitute against Leicester City and Everton, before he joined the absentee list with a calf injury.

As a result of the injury issue, Richarlison has been forced to miss Tottenham’s last seven matches in all competitions.

Richarlison remains absent for Sunday’s trip to the South Coast, but is now working on the grass at Tottenham’s training complex.

Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, Postecoglou gave an update on Richarlison’s recovery, revealing the next steps in his bid to return to action.

“He’s going well,” Postecoglou told reporters. Hopefully post-international break we’ll get him involved in team training.

Postecoglou is excited for Richarlison’s return

Since Richarlison last played, Tottenham delved into the transfer market to strengthen their forward line with the £65m addition of Dominic Solanke.

The former Bournemouth striker appears to be Postecoglou’s first-choice forward, but the Tottenham boss is looking forward to having the option of playing Richarlison and Solanke together or letting them compete for the number nine role.

“I would love that, it’s exactly what we want,” Postecoglou added. “That was the plan at the start of the year and then you end up, second game of the season, neither of them is available.

“We’ve got a hell of a lot of games and we want to be competitive in all of them. I can’t wait to get Richy back available. When he played for us last year and was fit, he scored goals. To have him and Dom as our strikers – and Richy can play wide as well – can’t wait to get him back.

“His recent history over the last two or three years is that he hasn’t been able to sustain it, he’s broken down. What we’re trying to do this time around is do everything right so that when he comes back, he stays back. That’s the key with Richy and hopefully that is the case.”

With Richarlison sidelined, Solanke is all but guaranteed to lead the line against Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.

Spurs are looking to claim a sixth consecutive victory after recording wins over Coventry City, Brentford, Qarabag, Manchester United and Ferencvaros.
