Chelsea transfer news: Blues ‘told to pay £80m’ for super sub striker

Aston Villa are reportedly valuing striker Jhon Duran at £80m following his stellar start to the season, with Chelsea still interested in the 20-year-old.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Aston Villa have reportedly placed a £80m price tag on Jhon Duran, with Chelsea keen on the player.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a stellar start to the 2024-25 campaign in both the Premier League and revamped Champions League for the Villans.

Duran has found the net on four occasions in six top-flight appearances so far this season, despite playing just 157 minutes of league action.

As a result, the Villa striker has a better goal-per-minute ratio than Manchester City’s Erling Haaland at this early stage of the campaign.

Coming off the bench at Villa Park on Wednesday night in the Champions League, Duran netted the winner as Unai Emery‘s men beat Bayern Munich.

Chelsea to pay £80m for Duran?

According to TEAMtalk, Aston Villa have revised their transfer strategy for Colombian striker Duran after his sensational start to the term.

The report claims that the Villans are now unwilling to let the 20-year-old leave the Second City club for anything less than £80m in the near future.

It is understood that Duran’s price tag could increase towards £100m should he continue his excellent performances following the October international break.

It is believed that Chelsea are keen on securing the services of the attacker in the future, with the Blues discussing a summer move for the player.

With Duran contracted to Villa until the summer of 2028, Emery’s troops are in a good position to drive a hard bargain for the in-form striker.

What could have been for the Hammers

During the summer transfer window, it appeared as if Duran was heading towards a permanent switch to Premier League rivals West Ham United.

The 20-year-old hinted at an imminent switch on Instagram livestream, crossing his arms to resemble the famous Hammers pose synonymous with the East London club.

That move to West Ham never materialised, though, with Duran going from strength to strength at Champions League-competing Villa this season.

The Colombian attacker will be looking to take Ollie Watkins‘s spot in the XI when Villa host Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
