Man United legend slams “disgusting performance” against Tottenham

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville calls the team’s display against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon “disgusting”.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has branded the team’s display against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon “disgusting”, claiming that there are “a lot of questions to answer”.

The Red Devils fell behind in the third minute of the contest and then had Bruno Fernandes sent off before Tottenham scored twice more in the second period to secure a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Man United have now lost successive league games in front of their own supporters 3-0, and Neville has slammed the 20-time English champions for their display against Ange Postecoglou‘s team.

“The pressure is going to get ramped up this week – it is going to be brutal. It has been a bad day for Ten Hag, really bad. It’s one of the worst performances I have seen under Ten Hag – and that is saying something. It is really bad,” Neville told Sky Sports News.

“Brilliant for Tottenham – and we should say that first. For Manchester United, they are booing the ref, but that is not even half the story. In the first half they have put in their worst performance.

Neville calls it “a shocking, sobering day” for Man United

“The big story was that first half – it was not from nowhere – but they have chosen to put in their very worst performance. It was a disgusting performance in effort and quality and a lot of questions to answer from that group in the next week.

“I’ve been here enough times over the past 10 to 12 years so know that a result like this, something has to be sorted now. It’ll just snowball if it doesn’t get sorted. It’s been a shocking, sobering day.

“I said there can be no excuses, there aren’t that many injuries and a mountain of cash has been spent. It’s woeful, it’s as bad as it gets. You wouldn’t have complained at all as a United fan if Spurs scored six because they have been so much better and had so many chances.

“It’s an important day for both these teams in mid-table. But the pressure is going to be huge this week at Old Trafford and trying to convince the fans that they still have something to believe in going forward. It’s been a bad day for Ten Hag, really bad.”

Neville fears “attitude problem in the squad”

Man United midfielder Christian Eriksen said after last week’s 1-1 draw with FC Twente in the Europa League that the Dutch outfit “wanted it more” than his side.

Neville has claimed that Eriksen’s words as a senior player demonstrate that there could be a major issue in the dressing room when it comes to “attitude”.

“Thinking about his comments after the FC Twente game on Wednesday evening, when he said FC Twente wanted it more is quite alarming when a senior player of that stature says that. He’s been around the block, Eriksen. It says there is an attitude problem in the squad,” he added after the clash with Spurs.

Man United will be bidding to bounce back when they head to Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night, before visiting Aston Villa in the Premier League next weekend.
