Newcastle’s Callum Wilson ‘attracting interest’ from two Premier League clubs

Brentford and Fulham are reportedly showing an interest in signing Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson in the January transfer window.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Brentford and Fulham are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson.

Wilson has scored 48 goals in 108 competitive appearances since joining Newcastle from Bournemouth in September 2020.

However, there is uncertainty about how long Wilson will remain at St. James Park, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old forward struggled with injury throughout last season and is yet to feature this term due to a back problem.

Brentford, Fulham targeting Wilson

With Wilson struggling with injury, Newcastle may be open to offers in January, especially as it represents one final chance to bring in a fee before his contract expires next summer.

From the player’s perspective, he is likely to struggle for a starting sport when fit due to Alexander Isak‘s prominent status in the squad, so he may be open to the prospect of joining a club that can offer him regular game time.

According to The Sun, the West London duo of Fulham and Brentford are both showing an interest in the former England international.

The report suggests that both Fulham and Brentford may make an effort to sign Wilson in a cut-price deal when the transfer window opens in January.

Why are Brentford and Fulham keen to sign a new striker?

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank will want to recruit a new striker following the departure of Ivan Toney in the recent summer transfer window.

Toney had entered the final year of his contract and was ultimately allowed to complete a £40m move to Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.

Toney’s departure combined with injuries to Igor Thiago and Yoane Wissa has left Frank with limited options in the final third.

Meanwhile, Fulham can currently call upon Rodrigo Muniz and Raul Jimenez as their main centre-forward options, while Carlos Vinicius is regarded as their third-choice option.

Vinicius was heavily linked with a move in the recent summer transfer window and if he does leave in the January market then Fulham may want to reinforce their forward department.
