Man City star ‘expected’ to sign new contract amidst exit fears with talks to begin in ‘coming weeks’

One of Manchester City’s star players is expected to sign a new contract and talks could commence in the ‘coming weeks’, according to a report.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Kevin De Bruyne is expected to sign a new contract at Manchester City, according to a report.

Speculation over the 33-year-old’s future at the Etihad Stadium has been rife for some time, with his current contract due to expire in June 2025.

De Bruyne was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer, with the playmaker admitting in June that he was “open to everything” and may find it difficult to turn down an “incredible” big-money contract offer from the Middle East.

However, the Belgium international has since confirmed that he did not hold talks with any other clubs about leaving Man City this summer.

De Bruyne has also confidently stated that “there will be conversations” between himself and the Citizens over his future at some stage this season.

De Bruyne to commit future to Man City?

Man City supporters have since been offered hope in keeping hold of De Bruyne for a while longer, as Football Insider reports that the playmaker is expected to put pen to paper on a contract extension.

The report adds that Man City chiefs have no concerns about De Bruyne’s long-term fitness after he missed the first six months of last season with a torn hamstring.

It is claimed that talks between both parties are expected to commence in the ‘coming weeks’ following the conclusion of the transfer window, with a solution set to come before the New Year.

De Bruyne, widely regarded as one of the greatest-ever Premier League midfielders, has now entered his 10th season as a Man City player and is the club’s longest-serving player within Pep Guardiola‘s current first-team squad.

De Bruyne considered a legend at Man City

Since joining Man City from Wolfsburg for around £54m in 2015, De Bruyne has scored 103 goals and registered 171 assists in 386 appearances across all competitions

The Belgian still managed to contribute with four goals and 10 assists in 18 Premier League games last season, despite missing the first half of the campaign through injury, to help Man City win an unprecedented fourth top-flight title in a row.

De Bruyne has won a total of 17 trophies with the Citizens, including six Premier League titles, five EFL Cups, two FA Cups and one Champions League.

City’s No.17 has already chipped in with one goal and one assist in three Premier League games this season and the Belgian is now away on international duty ahead of UEFA Nations League fixtures with Israel and France.

Meanwhile, Man City are also believed to be hopeful that they can tied down both Rodri and Erling Haaland to new contracts amid reported interest from Real Madrid.
