Wolves lineup vs. Chelsea: Predicted XI for Premier League clash

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Wolverhampton Wanderers could line up for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Gary O’Neil should ponder a couple of changes for Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Chelsea at Molineux.

The hosts fell to a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in their opening engagement of the 2024-25 season last weekend, where Matheus Cunha was only considered for a second-half cameo off the bench.

However, the Brazilian – who scored a memorable hat-trick at Stamford Bridge in February – heads the queue for promotion to the first XI this weekend, where Wolves are likely to field another starting lineup without a single Englishman.

Cunha could form a two-man strikeforce with Jorgen Strand Larsen, who had Wolves’ best chance of the game last weekend, thereby forcing Hwang Hee-chan to operate in a wide area from the first whistle.

Rodrigo Gomes was immediately thrown into the Premier League deep end against Arsenal, but O’Neil may now side with the experience of Pablo Sarabia, while Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes are midfield mainstays.

Rayan Ait-Nouri appeared to be a little worse for wear when he came off at the Emirates, but there is nothing to suggest that the left-back will not be able to play as part of an unchanged defence with Matt Doherty, Toti, Yerson Mosquera and Jose Sa.

Sasa Kalajdzic (knee), Enso Gonzalez (knee) and Leon Chiwone (ankle) are all out of contention for the visitors, while Nelson Semedo serves the second of a three-game ban.

Wolverhampton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Sa; Doherty, Mosquera, Toti, Ait-Nouri; Hwang, Lemina, J. Gomes, Sarabia; Cunha, Larsen
