Chelsea transfer news: Blues to consider ‘significant’ offers for 27-year-old

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to consider all ‘significant’ offers for a 27-year-old that does not feature in Enzo Maresca’s plans.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to consider all realistic offers for Ben Chilwell before the end of the summer transfer window.

Before and after the Premier League opener against Manchester City, it has become clear who features in Enzo Maresca‘s plans for 2024-25 and who does not.

On Friday night, Maresca was quizzed on reports that Chilwell was one of the players who may struggle to earn minutes under his new regime.

The Italian effectively acknowledged that the 27-year-old was down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and that it may ‘be better if he leaves’.

Unsurprisingly, Chilwell was nowhere to be seen when Maresca selected his squad for the Man City game, although it was later revealed that he also missed out through illness.

How will Chelsea handle situation?

Chelsea officials are now naturally looking to get Chilwell off their books over the coming days, aware that it will benefit their situation with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations.

However, it has been clear in the past that co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are not necessarily in the business of parting ways with players if a deal does not suit them.

To their detriment, any interested clubs are aware that there is an eagerness to get a high-earner off the wage bill and may try their luck with a cut-price offer.

According to Football Insider, it will take a ‘significant offer’ for Chelsea to cash in on the England international.

While a potential fee – permanent or loan – is not mentioned, the suggestion is that Chelsea may be prepared to take a relatively strong stance over any deal.

Chilwell still has three years remaining on his contract with the West Londoners, increasing the possibility that a loan with an option to buy may suit all concerned.

Any suitors will also be cautious regarding Chilwell’s injury record. He has made just 106 appearances for Chelsea across four seasons.

What are Chelsea’s options at left-back?

When Marc Cucurella was withdrawn during the latter stages against Man City with either cramp or an hamstring issue, Renato Veiga was chosen as his replacement.

The 21-year-old has gotten the nod in Maresca’s squad through also being able to feature at centre-back or in defensive-midfield when required.

Levi Colwill started as a centre-back against Man City, yet the one-cap England international is also an option on the left having played there for the majority of 2023-24.
