Transfer news and rumours today: Forest want Gimenez, Benfica winger to Napoli

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including Nottingham Forest pushing to sign Santiago Gimenez and Napoli closing in on David Neres.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Nottingham Forest have reportedly made an official approach for Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez.

The East Midlands outfit have already put together an impressive array of talent in the final third, Ramon Sosa having recently been added to the mix at the City Ground.

However, speculation persists that Nuno Espirito Santo could sign a third frontline striker behind the likes of Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi.

According to Fox Sports MX, Forest have put together a proposal worth in the region of €25m (£21.3m) for the Mexico international.

As it stands, though, it is claimed that Feyenoord are not prepared to sell their leading marksman for that price, leaving the ball in Forest’s court.

Gimenez has already established himself as one of Feyenoord’s best strikers in recent memory, contributing 53 goals and 13 assists from just 89 appearances in all competitions.

Napoli closing on Neres

Meanwhile, Napoli appear to be on the verge of strengthening their attacking options with the acquisition of Benfica winger David Neres.

The priority of the powers-that-be at the Serie A giants is resolving the issues around signing Romelu Lukaku and cashing in on Victor Osimhen.

Nevertheless, with the focus having previously been on defensive matters, Antonio Conte is allegedly eager to start adding to his options in the final third.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Napoli have agreed a €30m (£25.56m) with their Benfica counterparts to secure Neres’s signature.

Neres is said to be ready to undergo a medical on Monday with the view of being confirmed as a Napoli player either later in the day or on Tuesday.

A total of 17 goals and 26 assists have been contributed by Neres in two years with the Portuguese giants, putting his club in a position to double their money on the 27-year-old.

Decision made on Origi future

AC Milan are reportedly hopeful of finally bringing Divock Origi‘s unproductive stint at San Siro to an end before the conclusion of the summer transfer window.

After signing as a free agent in 2022, Origi would chip in with just two goals and one assist from his 36 appearances during his first campaign.

A loan stint at Forest would not go much better, contributing only one goal and one assist, and it has left the Belgium international in limbo.

As per Romano, Milan have told the 29-year-old that he is free to find a new club, a solution accepted by the player.

Teams in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and MLS are reportedly considering a bid for the former Liverpool man, who will presumably be sold for a cut-price fee.
