Major boost for Man United as star player ‘agrees new long-term deal’

Manchester United allegedly come to an agreement with club captain Bruno Fernandes over a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United have reportedly come to an agreement with Bruno Fernandes over a new long-term deal, with an announcement expected to arrive before the end of the month.

There has been speculation surrounding Fernandes’ future in recent weeks, with a number of Saudi Pro League clubs and some major European teams believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation at Old Trafford.

However, the Portugal international said at the end of last season that he would remain with the 20-time English champions for as long as he was wanted.

The 29-year-old’s existing deal at Old Trafford is due to expire in June 2026, but according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a fresh contract has been agreed.

Romano claims that Fernandes will sign until June 2027, plus the option to extend for a further 12 months, and he will now move alongside Man United’s top earners, including Casemiro and Marcus Rashford.

Fernandes ‘to sign new contract’ at Man United

An announcement will allegedly arrive before the end of the summer transfer window, and the news is a huge boost for Man United considering his importance to the side.

Fernandes has been one of Man United’s best signings in recent memory, having contributed heavily since arriving from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

The attacker has managed 79 goals and 66 assists in 233 appearances for the Red Devils, and he was again in strong form last season, scoring 15 goals and registering 13 assists in 48 appearances.

Fernandes thought that he had got off the mark in the new season with a goal against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday, but his excellent effort from distance was disallowed for offside.

How important is Fernandes for Man United?

Earlier this summer, it was suggested that Man United would be willing to cash in on the Portuguese if a suitable offer arrived.

However, the Red Devils simply cannot afford to lose a player of his ilk if they are to stand a chance of challenging for major trophies in the coming seasons.

Fernandes was appointed Man United captain last summer and will also wear the armband during the 2024-25 campaign, with Erik ten Hag‘s side kicking off their league season at home to Fulham on Friday night.

The attacker has won the EFL Cup and FA Cup since arriving at Old Trafford, but he will be hoping that his side can challenge for the Premier League and Champions League trophies in the coming years.
