Chelsea transfer news: Barcelona ‘exploring’ signing of young Blues midfielder

Barcelona reportedly make contact with their Chelsea counterparts to explore the possibility of signing a young Blues midfielder.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Barcelona reportedly remain interested in securing the signature of Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.

President Joan Laporta and La Liga chief Javier Tebas have both recently indicated that the Catalan giants are in a far healthier financial position than they have been in recent seasons.

That was proven on Friday when a €55m (£47.2m) deal was completed for RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo, who returns to a club whom he represented as a youth player.

How that will impact on Barcelona’s ability to spend during the remainder of the summer transfer window remains to be seen, but the situation will seemingly soon be helped by the sale of Julian Araujo to Bournemouth.

There is an argument that several areas of Hansi Flick‘s squad is light in terms of numbers, aside from the engine room where there is an array of talent at his disposal.

Nevertheless, it has been suggested that Barcelona officials are pushing to make another significant addition in that position to provide further competition.

Barcelona make fresh contact over Chukwuemeka

According to Sport, Chukwuemeka remains of considerable interest to the powers-that-be at Camp Nou.

Barcelona chiefs are said to appreciate his ‘dynamic and versatile’ profile and are actively exploring the possibility of signing the 20-year-old.

The report claims that contact has been made between the respective clubs and agents to determine whether a deal of some kind is feasible.

Chukwuemeka has already been linked with a switch to Barcelona earlier this year, there seemingly being a long-standing admiration in his ability.

How may Chelsea react?

When Chukwuemeka accumulated the most minutes of any Chelsea player in their opening two friendlies in the United States, it appeared that Enzo Maresca had taken a liking to the England Under-20 international.

Instead, Chukwuemeka would not feature for the concluding three games of the tour, throwing his immediate and long-term future into considerable doubt.

Few Chelsea fans will want to see Chukwuemeka leave Stamford Bridge, yet there is an acknowledgement that he desperately requires more game time at this stage of his career.

In two seasons at Chelsea, Chukwuemeka has featured for just 616 minutes in all competitions, something which needs to drastically change whether that be with the West Londoners or elsewhere.
