Man United transfer news: 32-goal striker ‘to undergo medical this week’

Manchester United are reportedly moving closer to the signing of 32-goal striker Chido Obi-Martin, who is preparing for his Red Devils medical this week.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United have reportedly moved closer to the signing of Chido Obi-Martin, who is set to have a medical at the club this week.

The 16-year-old is currently one of the hottest prospects in world football following his attacking antics as part of Arsenal’s youth sides in recent years.

Obi-Martin rose to worldwide stardom in October 2023, when he scored an eye-watering total of 10 goals in a single match versus Liverpool Under-16s.

Clearly too talented to be operating within his own age group, the Danish striker has been playing for Arsenal’s Under-18s side over the past year.

Making the net ripple on 32 occasions in 18 Premier League 2 matches, Obi-Martin has made the step up with relative ease and could be headlining a first-team match in the near future.

Man United set to carry out Obi-Martin medical?

According to Football Insider, Man United are set to complete the signing of Obi-Martin, beating a host of other top European clubs to his signature.

The report claims that the 16-year-old is scheduled to undergo his Red Devils medical this week and will put pen to paper at Old Trafford should all go swimmingly.

Arsenal offered Obi-Martin a scholarship earlier this year but the attacker decided that his immediate future was best served at a different club.

It is understood that the starlet has rejected the advances of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in favour of a move to the red side of Manchester.

New Man United assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy has supposedly contacted Obi-Martin, helping to convince the youngster that the Theatre of Dreams is the right destination for his career progression.

Contract details and role models

Set to join Man United at just 16 years of age, Obi-Martin will have to wait until his 17th birthday in November to sign a professional contract with the Red Devils.

It is currently unclear whether the former Gunner would start in United’s Under-18s or Under-21s side, although you would suspect that first-team training will be on the cards.

Kobbie Mainoo made his Man United debut and an appearance in the Euro 2024 final within the space of a year, showing that swift progression is possible at the Theatre of Dreams.

Obi-Martin will also draw inspiration from the story of Alejandro Garnacho, who is cementing himself as a key first-team player under Erik ten Hag.
