Ipswich Town transfer news: Tractor Boys want Burnley forward?

Ipswich Town are reportedly plotting a move for Burnley winger Wilson Odobert, who could be handed a Premier League lifeline after suffering relegation with the Clarets.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Ipswich Town are reportedly interested in signing Burnley attacker Wilson Odobert.

The 19-year-old was handed his first taste of Premier League and English football during the 2023-24 term, when he played at Turf Moor under the leadership of Vincent Kompany.

Odobert was a shining light for the Clarets in a difficult season, scoring three times and providing two assists in 29 top-flight appearances, 25 of which arrived from the start of matches.

Despite his best efforts, the tricky winger was unable to prevent Burnley from suffering an immediate return to the Championship, with Lancashire club finishing 19th in the Premier League.

As well in club football, Odobert has also gained recognition on the international stage in recent times, earning his maiden cap for France Under-23s this year.

Ipswich ‘want’ Burnley’s Odobert?

According to Football Insider, Burnley star Odobert could be handed a Premier League lifeline as the Clarets prepare for a tedious term in the second tier.

The report claims that top-flight newcomers Ipswich are interested in securing the services of the 19-year-old, who played 33 times for Kompany’s troops last campaign.

Although Scott Parker and Burnley are reluctant to part ways with Odobert this summer, there is an understanding that it could be difficult to keep the attacker in the Championship for a season.

The Tractors Boys are in the market for a winger after missing out on the signature of Jaden Philogene, who lit up the second tier at Hull City last campaign.

The England youth international has instead returned to Aston Villa, who are able to offer the forward Champions League football under the expert tutelage of Unai Emery.

Ipswich’s transfer state of play

Despite failing to sign Philogene, Kieran McKenna‘s side have managed to recruit a Hull fans’ favourite, with centre-back Jacob Greaves making the switch from the MKM Stadium.

Liam Delap was on loan with the Tigers last term but has now signed for Ipswich permanently from Premier League holders Manchester City, who have both Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez in their striking ranks.

Odobert could become the second Burnley player to jump ship to Portman Road this summer, with Arijanet Muric taking up a top-flight contract in East Anglia.

The Kosovo international was integral to the Clarets’ Championship-winning campaign of 2022-23 but was kept on the bench for the majority of last term by James Trafford.
