Liverpool transfer news: Reds ‘working’ on £25m deal for Turkey Euro 2024 star

Liverpool are reportedly working on a move for Galatasaray and Turkey attacker Baris Yilmaz, who is also attracting interest from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Galatasaray and Turkey winger Baris Yilmaz.

The 24-year-old has stepped onto the continental stage at Euro 2024 this summer in Germany, where the Crescent-Stars made the quarter-finals of the competition.

Turkey’s run in the tournament came to a dramatic end on Saturday night, when a strike from Stefan de Vrij and an own goal from Mert Muldur sealed a 2-1 comeback success for the Netherlands.

As Ronald Koeman‘s troops prepare for a semi-final clash with England on Wednesday night, Galatasaray man Yilmaz will be reviewing a positive campaign in club and international football.

Scoring six goals and providing six assists, Yilmaz helped Okan Buruk‘s troops to the Turkish Super Lig title, losing just twice in 38 matches and passing the 100-point mark.

Liverpool ‘start’ work on Yilmaz deal

According to Turkish outlet Milliyet, Yilmaz’s impressive performances at the European Championships could be set to earn him a lucrative move to England this summer.

The report claims that Liverpool have commenced their pursuit of the 24-year-old, who has never played for a club outside of his homeland during his professional career to date.

It is believed that the Reds were impressed by Yilmaz’s performances at Euro 2024, particularly during the last-eight defeat to the Netherlands in Berlin.

With three years left on his current deal, Galatasaray are not in a massive rush to offload the winger, who is valued by the Turkish champions at £25m.

As well as the Reds, it is understood that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have also registered their interest in Yilmaz, although the ability of Arne Slot‘s side to offer Champions League football could be significant in the race for the player’s services.

Liverpool-linked Yilmaz praised by Virgil van Dijk

Prior to links emerging between Yilmaz and Liverpool, Reds captain Virgil van Dijk praised the attacker’s performance during Turkey’s defeat to the Netherlands on Saturday.

“Baris Yilmaz was running constantly. He was running elusive”, said Van Dijk following his nation’s progression into the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

“It was difficult for every defender. He made it very hard for us. He could not score a goal though. If we were to describe him in any way, he is a really important player.”

Liverpool boss Slot already has an array of attacking talent at his disposal, with Mohamed Salah being the undisputed first-choice right winger at Anfield during the reign of Jurgen Klopp.
