Man United chief Dan Ashworth ‘set’ for transfer talks with 26-year-old

Manchester United’s new sporting director Dan Ashworth could allegedly meet with Marcus Rashford and his representatives next week to discuss the forward’s future.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United‘s new sporting director Dan Ashworth could allegedly meet with Marcus Rashford and his representatives next week to discuss the forward’s future at Old Trafford.

Rashford’s future is again the subject of much speculation, with Paris Saint-Germain believed to be considering launching a move for the attacker during the summer transfer window.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ashworth, who has arrived from Newcastle United, could meet with Rashford’s camp next week to discuss the situation.

Having been left out of the England squad for this summer’s European Championship, Rashford is due to report for pre-season training with the 20-time English champions on Monday.

The Red Devils are allegedly currently planning to keep hold of the forward and are determined to help him regain his best form after a difficult 2023-24 campaign.

Rashford could leave Man United this summer

However, it is understood that the club have not ruled out the possibility of Rashford leaving this summer, providing that a suitable offer is received.

Any sale of the Englishman would be viewed as pure profit under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, and PSG are thought to view him as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe.

Rashford only managed eight goals and five assists in 43 appearances for Man United during the 2023-24 campaign, while he also had off-the-field problems at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old signed a lucrative long-term contract with the 20-time English champions in July 2023, though, off the back of scoring 30 goals and registering 10 assists in 56 appearances during the 2022-23 campaign.

Rashford’s relationship with Ten Hag has become ‘strained’

Man United have decided to keep Erik ten Hag as head coach despite a difficult 2023-24 campaign, with the Dutchman able to deliver the FA Cup to Old Trafford at the end of last season.

Ten Hag continued to back Rashford last term when asked about the struggling forward, but it is believed that the relationship between the two has become ‘strained’.

Rashford caused controversy at the start of 2024 when he visited a nightclub in Dublin on two separate evenings and then called in sick for training before his team’s FA Cup clash with Newport County, which led to him receiving a £650,000 fine.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils academy product was disciplined last October when he attended a birthday party just hours after the team had suffered a defeat to Manchester City in the Manchester derby.

Man United are due to begin their pre-season against Rosenborg on July 15, and Rashford is set to be involved in that contest, providing that there are no major developments surrounding his future over the next 12 days.
