Liverpool transfer news: Reds ‘battling’ Italian giants for Euro 2024 free agent

Liverpool are reportedly rivalling two Italian signs in the race to sign Adrien Rabiot, who is now a free agent following the expiry of his Juventus contract.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Liverpool are reportedly locked in a battle with at least two Italian clubs for the signature of France international Adrien Rabiot.

The Frenchman is currently representing his country at Euro 2024, where he has started in all four matches, including Monday’s win 1-0 win over Belgium in the last 16.

Rabiot, who will miss Friday’s quarter-final against Portugal through suspension, may be focused on his work with the national side, but he will be giving some thought to his uncertain club future.

The 29-year-old midfielder recently hit the free agent market after his Juventus contract expired at the end of June.

Liverpool battling Juventus and AC Milan for Rabiot

As it stands, he has ended his five-year stay at the Allianz Stadium, but newly-appointed Juventus boss Thiago Motta is still keen for a deal to be struck for Rabiot to remain in Turin.

However, according to Calcio Mercato, Liverpool are preparing to rival Juventus as well as AC Milan in the battle to secure Rabiot’s signature.

Manchester United have previously been linked with Rabiot, but it appears that Liverpool are leading the Premier League race to sign him this summer.

Nevertheless, the Reds still have a real fight on their hands to fend off the two Italian giants, especially as Juventus have put a new contract offer on the table.

Juventus are offering Rabiot a new two-year deal worth €7m (£5.9m) per season, with an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Liverpool looking for midfield reinforcements

Rabiot will not make any final decisions over his future until he has finished representing Didier Deschamp’s side at Euro 2024.

As a result, Liverpool may have to remain patient in their pursuit as they look to sign a new midfielder ahead of Arne Slot‘s first season in charge.

The Reds completed an overhaul of the engine room last summer, recruiting Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai.

However, a space in the midfield has now opened up following Thiago Alcantara‘s departure at the end of last season.

The Spaniard officially left following the expiry of his contract on June 30 after experiencing an injury-hit 2023-24 campaign.
