Nottingham Forest transfer news: Sheffield United man ‘targeted’ in surprise move

Nottingham Forest are allegedly contemplating an approach for a Sheffield United defender after their relegation from the Premier League.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Nottingham Forest reportedly have their eyes on signing a Sheffield United defender during the summer transfer window.

The East Midlands outfit defied a four-point deduction to secure their place in the Premier League for at least another season.

Although Forest have been aware that they need to meet the relevant criteria regarding financial rules, they remain interested in strengthening their squad.

If reports are to be believed, Elliot Anderson will be arriving at the City Ground in a big-money deal, that transfer required by Newcastle United to fulfil the same financial criteria.

Nevertheless, it appears that Nuno Espirito Santo is eager to make a significant addition to his backline as soon as possible.

Egan to revive career at Forest?

John Egan did not make a single appearance for Sheffield United past the end of September due to a foot injury.

As a result, the centre-back will be departing Bramall Lane on a free transfer after six years at the Yorkshire club.

According to The Sun, Forest are contemplating whether to hand the 31-year-old a contract to kick-start his career.

While there is still a chance that the Republic of Ireland could sign a new deal at Sheffield United, Forest are said to be monitoring the situation.

Egan would add a great deal of experience to the Forest squad having still managed to rack up 224 appearances at his current club since 2018.

Nevertheless, reaching the end of his contract throws open the opportunity of trying to salvage a career in the Premier League.

Would Forest get value for money>

Dating back until March 2021, Egan has won just three of his last 15 appearances in the Premier League, all coming by 1-0 scorelines against Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton and Burnley.

Egan then made 45 outings in the Championship as Sheffield United finished second to Burnley in the title race, yet his long-term injury puts his reputation at risk.

Forest currently have four centre-backs available for selection next season in the form of Murillo, Andrew Omobamidele, Scott McKenna and Willy Boly.
