Belgium lineup vs. France: Predicted XI for Euro 2024 last-16 tie

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Belgium could line up for Monday’s Euro 2024 last-16 clash with France.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco will likely be tempted into an attacking alteration for Monday’s Euro 2024 last-16 clash with heavyweights France in Dusseldorf.

The Red Devils nabbed second place in Group E despite scoring just two goals throughout the entire group stage, the joint second-fewest across all 24 teams, only better than one-strike Serbia.

Tedesco’s offence left a lot to be desired in their final goalless draw with Ukraine, where Dodi Lukebakio‘s suspension opened the door for Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard to come back into the XI.

However, the 29-year-old only lasted 62 minutes before being hooked for Yannick Carrasco, who was much more of a threat, forcing Anatoliy Trubin into his most challenging save of the afternoon.

Tedesco refused to point the finger at Trossard, but he should certainly consider giving Carrasco the nod on the left as Jeremy Doku struts his stuff on the right; Lukebakio will therefore take his seat on the bench upon his return.

Still scoreless at Euro 2024, Romelu Lukaku seeks to break his duck at the fourth attempt with support from Kevin De Bruyne, while Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana complete the all-Premier League midfield.

As Axel Witsel and Thomas Meunier are still on the recovery trail from injuries, there should be no alteration to the rearguard of Arthur Theate, Jan Vertonghen, Wout Faes and Timothy Castagne in front of Koen Casteels, who came up with some critical saves in midweek to keep Belgium kicking at the Euros.

Belgium possible starting lineup:
Casteels; Castagne, Faes, Vertonghen, Theate; Tielemans, Onana; Doku, De Bruyne, Carrasco; Lukaku
