Mason Greenwood ‘in line’ to begin pre-season training with Man United on July 8

English forward Mason Greenwood could reportedly begin pre-season training with Manchester United on July 8.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Mason Greenwood could reportedly begin pre-season training with Manchester United on July 8, should the club be unsuccessful in their attempts to sell the forward.

The 22-year-old spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Getafe, representing the La Liga outfit on 36 occasions, scoring 10 goals and registering six assists in the process.

Getafe president Angel Torres recently hinted that Greenwood could be back at the club next season, but it is highly unlikely that the La Liga team will be able to afford a permanent transfer.

Lazio and Juventus are also being strongly linked with the Englishman, but the Italian pair are not believed to be willing to meet Man United’s asking price, which is believed to be around £40m.

According to The Mirror, Man United remain keen to sell Greenwood this summer, with the forward unlikely to play for the 20-time English champions again.

Greenwood ‘could return to Carrington next month’

However, the report claims that, should the Red Devils academy product remain with the club over the next couple of weeks, he could be back at Carrington for the start of pre-season on July 8.

Greenwood has not been at Man United’s training complex since January 2022.

Little over two years ago, following accusations from a woman, the forward was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The Red Devils academy product was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the case against him was officially dropped last February.

Man United are thought to have made the decision to bring him back into their first-team squad last summer before changing their minds due to the backlash from the public.

Man United are ‘still expected to sell Greenwood’

The Red Devils will begin their pre-season with a friendly against Rosenborg on July 15, before tackling Rangers five days later, with that match coming before the start of their USA Tour.

Man United will take on Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool during their time in the United States before heading back to England to face Manchester City in the Community Shield.

The 20-time English champions will then open their 2023-24 Premier League campaign with a clash against Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday night.

The club’s players competing in the European Championship and Copa America will be given longer off to prepare for the start of the new season.

Man United finished eighth in last season’s Premier League, which represented their worst-ever campaign in the current format, but they won the FA Cup to qualify for the 2024-25 Europa League.
