Tottenham midfielder ‘planning’ to leave Ange Postecoglou’s side this summer

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg reportedly tells friends that he wants to leave the Premier League club this summer.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has reportedly expressed a desire to leave this summer.

Hojbjerg completed a move to Tottenham in the summer of 2020 after spending four years on the South Coast with Southampton.

The Denmark international has made 184 appearances during his time in North London, contributing 10 goals and 16 assists.

However, Hojbjerg has fallen down the pecking order following Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival from Celtic last summer.

The 28-year-old started all 35 of his Premier League appearances in the season prior to Postecoglou’s appointment compared to just the eight top-flight starts he was afforded during the 2023-24 campaign.

Hojbjerg makes decision over Tottenham future

Postecoglou ultimately preferred to utilise Yves Bissouma, Papa Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur, leaving Hojbjerg on the periphery of the Tottenham squad.

Hojbjerg’s lack of playing time has led to speculation over his future, especially as he is set to enter the final 12 months of his Tottenham deal.

According to Football Insider, the Dane has told friends that he wants to leave Spurs this summer to become a regular starter at a new club.

Hojbjerg’s position is likely to be shared by Postecoglou, who is seemingly keen to overhaul his squad ahead of his second season in the Premier League.

The Tottenham manager wants to mould a squad in his image, and Hojbjerg does not appear to feature in any of his long-term plans.

What next for Hojbjerg?

After spending the last eight years in the Premier League, it seems likely that he will leave the English top flight this summer and seek a fresh challenge in one of Europe’s other major leagues.

The midfielder is believed to be attracting interest from AC Milan, Juventus and Napoli, who may sense the chance to strike a cut-price deal due to Hojbjerg’s contract situation.

A recent report also claimed that Atletico Madrid have reignited their pursuit after being linked with a move for Hojbjerg last year.

While there is considerable speculation surrounding his future, his current focus will be on helping Denmark progress from the Euro 2024 group stage.

Hojbjerg is likely to play a prominent role in Tuesday’s final game against Serbia after starting both of the 1-1 draws against Slovenia and England.
