How Germany could line up against Switzerland

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Germany could line up for Sunday’s Euro 2024 clash with Switzerland.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Trying to seal top spot in Group A at Euro 2024, tournament hosts Germany are expected to name a strong lineup against second-placed Switzerland on Sunday evening.

While Die Mannschaft are already assured of a place in the last 16, head coach Julian Nagelsmann will want to build momentum with a third win from three, so an unchanged XI may even start in Frankurt.

Ilkay Gundogan captains the side from an advanced midfield role, joining Jamal Musiala – who became the first player to score two goals at the finals with his opener against Hungary – and Florian Wirtz in the supporting cast for versatile Arsenal forward Kai Havertz.

Despite the presence of Barcelona number one Marc-Andre ter Stegen, veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is still undisputed first choice for his nation, and the Bayern Munich stalwart should feature behind a now-familiar back four.

Center-back pairing Jonathan Tah and Antonio Rudiger are likely to continue – albeit both are on a booking and therefore at risk of suspension – with Maximilian Mittelstadt lining up on the left and Joshua Kimmich on the right.

Meanwhile, midfield workhorse Robert Andrich is set to partner schemer supreme Toni Kroos in Germany’s engine room once again.

Should Nagelsmann decide to tinker around the edges, then Thomas Muller, Niclas Fullkrug and Leroy Sane head a long list of men vying for promotion from the bench.

Germany possible starting lineup: Neuer; Kimmich, Tah, Rudiger, Mittelstadt; Andrich, Kroos; Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz; Havertz
