How Denmark could line up against England

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Denmark could line up for Thursday’s Euro 2024 Group C clash against England.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand could name the same starting lineup for the second successive match when his side take on England in a Group C clash at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt on Thursday evening.

The Danes were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Slovenia in their opening group fixture last Sunday, with Christian Eriksen on the scoresheet exactly 1,110 days after suffering a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s first game of Euro 2020.

Eriksen is poised to earn his 132nd cap on Thursday and will likely operate in the number 10 role behind Manchester United teammate Rasmus Hojlund and Wolfsburg’s Jonas Wind up front.

With Hjulmand expected to stick with a 3-4-2-1 formation, Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is set to link arms with in-demand Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand in the middle of the pitch, although Brentford trio Christian Norgaard, Mathias Jensen and Mikkel Damsgaard will all be hoping to force their way into the first XI.

Alexander Bah and Victor Kristiansen were both given the nod to start as wing-backs last time out and they could retain their starting spots if Hjulmand opts against selecting either Joachim Maehle or Rasmus Kristensen.

England’s attackers will be familiar with Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen, former Chelsea man Andreas Christensen – now at Barcelona – and Leicester City’s Jannik Vestergaard who are all set to continue in a three-man defence, protecting 37-year-old goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Denmark possible starting lineup: Schmeichel; Andersen, Christensen, Vestergaard; Bah, Hjulmand, Hojbjerg, Kristiansen; Eriksen; Wind, Hojlund
