Transfer news and rumours: Villa want Brazilian stopper, Rodon, Sessegnon interest

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including Aston Villa chasing a Brazilian goalkeeper and a Tottenham Hotspur defender attracting interest.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Aston Villa reportedly hold an interest in signing Famalicao goalkeeper Luiz Junior during the summer transfer window.

The West Midlands outfit are already well stocked for options between the sticks, with Argentina international Emiliano Martinez the standout number one.

Robin Olsen and Joe Gauci provided backup during the second half of the last campaign, yet it appears that Unai Emery is open to adding a different stopper to his squad.

According to O Jogo, Villa are open to paying in the region of £10m for Luiz Junior.

Just 39 goals were conceded in 33 Primeira Liga matches during 2023-24, an impressive return from the 23-year-old given Famalicao’s standing in Portuguese football.

Although the Brazilian holds a contract until 2027, it appears that Villa are prepared to present an offer to his current club over the next week.

Array of clubs showing Rodon interest

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur will be confident of generating a fee for Joe Rodon this summer with a number of Premier League teams reportedly showing an interest.

Rodon spent last season as part of the Leeds United squad that narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League, making a total of 50 appearances.

However, the Wales international will return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium out of favour at the North Londoners and up for sale.

As per football.london, each of the three promoted clubs – Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton – are all keen on signing the centre-back.

While a fee is not mentioned, it appears that the trio of teams will attempt to negotiate a deal for the 26-year-old, who has a year left on his contract.

Leeds are also hoping to re-sign Rodon, providing that compromises can be reached during a summer where the Yorkshire giants need to balance the books.

Sessegnon not short of interest

Spurs have already acted to release Ryan Sessegnon at the end of his contract courtesy of the injury issues that he has sustained in recent seasons.

The left-sided player would make just one substitute appearance in 2023-24, that coming towards the end of an FA Cup tie with Burnley in January.

As a result, Ange Postecoglou was not interested in the club taking up the option to extend his contract by a year, instead freeing up space on the wage bill.

From the 24-year-old’s perspective, though, football.london says that clubs from the Premier League and Bundesliga are ready to move for the former England Under-21 international.

Although Sessegnon is allegedly keen to remain in England, his stock in Germany remains high courtesy of a former loan spell at Hoffenheim.
