Manchester United, Arsenal handed Ivan Toney boost as Brentford ‘slash’ asking price

Brentford are reportedly willing to sell Ivan Toney for £60m this summer, representing good news for potential suitors Manchester United and Arsenal.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly received a boost in their pursuit of Ivan Toney, with Brentford having reduced their asking price for the player.

The 28-year-old endured a difficult campaign during 2023-24 at club level, missing the first half of the term after being charged with 232 breaches of the FA’s betting regulations.

Since his return to competitive action in January of this year, Toney has found the back of the net on just four occasions in 17 Premier League matches, with all of those strikes arriving in the first five matches.

Therefore, the former Peterborough United marksman has battled through a 12-match goalless run for Thomas Frank‘s Bees, however that has not stopped the forward from gaining international recognition.

Toney has been selected as part of Gareth Southgate‘s England squad for Euro 2024, with the Brentford talisman looking to beat Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins to the title of Harry Kane‘s understudy in Germany this summer.

Man United, Arsenal to pay less for Brentford star Toney?

According to talkSPORT, the potential suitors of Brentford’s Toney – namely Manchester United and Arsenal – have been handed a major transfer boost this summer.

The report claims that the West Londoners are willing to depart with the striker for £60m, a reduction on their asking price during the January transfer window.

Despite failing to feature in a match due to his ban at that moment in the term, Brentford were demanding at least £80m for the ex-Newcastle United player.

It is understood that Mikel Arteta‘s Gunners were leading the race for Toney’s services in the New Year, with the attacker’s representatives speaking to Arsenal.

Erik Ten Hag‘s side are said to be keen on a move for the 28-year-old, who is supposedly included on a shortlist alongside Bologna’s Josh Zirkzee and Lille’s Jonathan David as potential incomings at Old Trafford.

Man United’s busy summer

With reports emerging that Toney could be on the move this summer for a cut-price fee this summer, Man United might begin to ramp up their efforts to recruit the England international.

As Anthony Martial is set to depart the red side of Manchester at the end of his current deal, young Dane Rasmus Hojlund is the only recognised striker at the club.

Toney has not been afraid in recent interviews to express his desire to move onto a bigger club, although the Brentford man remains committed to performing at the Gtech Community Stadium, for as long as he is there.

With Kane, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka set to be the starting stars in the England forward line, Toney will be looking for minutes off the bench as the Three Lions start their Euro 2024 schedule with a clash against Serbia on Sunday night.
