Erik ten Hag ‘expects to learn Manchester United fate in coming days’

Erik ten Hag is reportedly expecting to find out this week whether he will continue in his role as Manchester United boss.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Erik ten Hag has reportedly indicated that he expects to be told this week whether he will continue as Manchester United manager.

The Dutchman has seen his position come under significant speculation since INEOS purchased a minority stake in Man United earlier this year.

With INEOS in charge of the club’s football operations, there have been rumours suggesting they could stamp their authority by bringing in a manager of their own choosing.

Prior to the FA Cup final, there was a suggestion that Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had already decided to part ways with Ten Hag.

The 54-year-old subsequently oversaw a 2-1 final victory over Manchester City, securing the Red Devils their first FA Cup since 2016.

Ten Hag hoping to learn Man United fate this week

Despite enjoying success at Wembley, it remains to be seen whether the FA Cup triumph will be enough to save Ten Hag’s job following a tumultuous campaign.

The Red Devils finished the Premier League season in a disappointing eighth position, while they crashed out of the Champions League group stage before the turn of the year.

The Man United hierarchy are now undertaking a review of the whole season to come to a well-informed decision over Ten Hag’s future.

According to Sky Sports News, the Man United boss is hoping to learn this week whether he will be sacked or told to continue in his role.

Ten Hag still has one year left to run on the three-year deal he signed when he was appointed as Man United manager in 2022.

Who could replace Ten Hag?

The Dutchman wants his future sorted sooner rather than later so he can look at other job opportunities if he is relieved of his duties as Man United boss.

The Red Devils have been linked with a variety of potential successors, including England boss Gareth Southgate and Brentford head coach Thomas Frank as well as Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel.

Man United have allegedly spoken to representatives of former Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi, while Xavi has emerged as a potential option following his recent exit from Barcelona.

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna was believed to be in the running, before he signed a new long-term contract to commit his future to the newly-promoted side.
