Tottenham Hotspur expiring contracts: Who is free to leave this summer and next?

Sports Mole rounds up all of Tottenham Hotspur’s expiring contracts for this season and next.

SURE ODDS BANNER

After a record-breaking start to the 2023-24 season under Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham Hotspur‘s brief Premier League title bid ended in failure, as did their ambitions to return to the Champions League.

Another rebuild is on the cards for the Australian’s second campaign in charge, but the futures of a plethora of fringe players are overshadowed in a thick cloud of uncertainty.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at the Tottenham players whose contracts either expire at the end of June, or in the summer of 2025.

Regarded as a top prospect following his 2019 capture from Fulham, Sessegnon’s Tottenham move has not worked out as intended due to a wave of injuries, and the 24-year-old will be allowed to leave for nothing this summer.

  • Promoted to club captain for the 2023-24 season and excelling with the armband, Son Heung-min should be rewarded with a new contract in due course, but as things stand, the South Korean will be available on a free in 2025.

    Fraser Forster

  • Scottish League Cup (1): 2019-20
  • Retaining his status as Tottenham’s number two last season, 36-year-old Fraser Forster may not have much time left in a Tottenham shirt, especially after Brandon Austin‘s recent contract extension.

    Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

  • DFB-Pokal (3): 2012-13, 2013-14, 2015-16
  • Formerly a mainstay of the Tottenham midfield, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg slipped down the pecking order when Postecoglou arrived and is expected to be sold this summer before a free transfer in 2025.

    Ben Davies

    Honours

  • EFL Cup (1): 2012-13
  • The longest-serving player at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, experienced left-back Ben Davies also struggled for regular minutes in 2023-24, but his situation remains on the unclear side.

    Sergio Reguilon

    Tottenham appearances: 67
    Tottenham goals: 2

    Honours

  • Club World Cup (1): 2018-19
  • Europa League (1): 2019-20
  • Following a pair of Premier League loan spells with Manchester United and Brentford, Sergio Reguilon is back in North London but seemingly has no future with Tottenham, who should be open to acceptable bids for the Spaniard.

    Alfie Whiteman

    Age: 25
    Position: Goalkeeper
    Transfer value: £427,000

    Tottenham goals: 0

    Honours

    None

English goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman helps to fulfil Tottenham’s home-grown quota, but the 25-year-old has only ever made one appearance for the Lilywhites and will seemingly have to move on if he wishes to enjoy regular game time elsewhere.

    Joe Rodon

    Age: 26
    Position: Centre-back
    Transfer value: £6.8m
    Joined: October 16, 2020
    Joining fee: £10.3m
    Tottenham appearances: 24
    Tottenham goals: 0

    Honours

    None

Joe Rodon shone for Leeds United on loan during their unsuccessful bid for Premier League promotion, and having failed to live up to expectations at Spurs, a permanent move to a Championship club may be his best bet.

    Japhet Tanganga

    Age: 25
    Position: Centre-back
    Transfer value: £1.5m

    Tottenham appearances: 50
    Tottenham goals: 0

    Honours

Once regarded as one of Tottenham’s stars of the future, Japhet Tanganga has not hit the heights expected of him in North London and is now expected to join Millwall on a permanent deal following a strong loan spell.

    Giovani Lo Celso

  • Coupe de France (2): 2016-17, 2017-18
  • Coupe de la Ligue (2): 2016-17, 2017-18
  • Trophee des Champions (2): 2017-18, 2018-19
  • CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions (1): 2022
  • After surprisingly staying on at Tottenham for the 2023-24 season, Giovani Lo Celso was only able to make a fleeting impression under Postecoglou and is surely heading for the exit door.
