Luton Town midfielder ‘attracting interest from Watford, Queens Park Rangers’

Luton Town’s Luke Berry is reportedly attracting interest from Watford, Queens Park Rangers and DC United, with the 31-year-old set to become a free agent this summer.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Watford and Queens Park Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Luton Town‘s Luke Berry during the summer transfer window.

Since making the switch from Cambridge United to Kenilworth Road in 2017, the 31-year-old has featured 182 times for the Hatters across all competitions, scoring on 26 occasions.

Despite his status as a great servant of the club, Berry has struggled massively for regular game time as Luton stepped up to the Premier League this season.

The midfielder has appeared in 15 top-flight matches and netted twice, however he has only started on two occasions, earning a total of 305 minutes of action in the Premier League.

The Hatters’ summer recruitment robbed Berry of an opportunity to play consistently this season, with the likes of Ross Barkley and Albert Sambi Lokonga being ahead of the veteran in the midfield pecking order.

Luton man Berry wanted by Watford, QPR?

According to Football Insider, Berry’s seven-year association with Luton could be coming to an end at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.

The report states that Championship duo Watford and QPR are keen on securing the services of the 31-year-old over the summer transfer window.

The Hornets are preparing for life under the permanent stewardship of Tom Cleverley, who earned the managerial position at Vicarage Road after impressing during an interim spell over the past month.

Also having a positive impact at his club this term, Marti Cifuentes steered QPR away from relegation trouble in the Championship and is now looking to move up the second-tier standings with the R’s next campaign.

With Berry’s contract at Kenilworth Road expiring in the summer, he is set to be able to walk away from Luton on a free transfer to potential suitors.

American interest for Luton’s Berry?

As well as a pair of sides in the Championship, it is understood that MLS outfit DC United are considering a swoop for Luton’s Berry in the coming months.

The Black and Red are currently eighth in the Eastern Conference table after 10 matches, looking to secure a spot in the playoffs after missing out last year.

United already boast a number of midfielders who are no strangers to the English game, including ex-Manchester United prodigy Ravel Morrison and former Leeds United enforcer Mateusz Klich.

The Washington-based club have also utilised the English market as a source of managerial appointments in recent times, with Wayne Rooney in charge at Audi Field between July 2022 and October 2023.
