Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash between Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion, Sports Mole takes a look at Mohamed Salah’s record against the Seagulls.
Mohamed Salah will be expected to return to the starting lineup when Liverpool host Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield in Saturday’s Premier League clash.
The top-flight battle marks the second of two straight meetings between the Reds and the Seagulls after Wednesday’s EFL Cup last-16 contest, which Arne Slot‘s men won 3-2 to set up a quarter-final bout with Southampton.
Salah was unsurprisingly cut from the first XI for the fourth-round victory, but he came off the bench for the final 19 minutes of the match and now endeavours to replicate his previous excellent feats in this fixture.
Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at how the Egypt international has performed against Brighton in the past.

As Brighton were competing in the lower echelons of the English Football League during Salah’s time at Chelsea, the Egyptian has made all 16 of his appearances against the Seagulls for Liverpool and has developed quite the knack for scoring or assisting in this battle.
Indeed, Salah’s 16 appearances have coincidentally brought about an identical number of goal contributions – nine of his own and seven assists – while he has won nine, drawn four and lost three of his meetings with Brighton in all competitions.
Salah returned to the Premier League in 2017, the same summer that Brighton were gearing up for their first season of Premier League football, and the winger set up a Roberto Firmino effort in his first appearance against them before scoring and assisting in a 4-0 win on the last day of the 2017-18 campaign.
That would prove to be the start of a stellar Salah run against Brighton, as he has produced at least one goal or one assist against the Seagulls in every Premier League season from 2017-18, scoring three times in two appearances in the 2023-24 campaign.
The Egyptian’s best individual display against Brighton to date came towards the end of the COVID-affected 2019-20 season, where he scored a brace and set up Jordan Henderson in a 3-1 win after Jurgen Klopp‘s side had already been crowned champions.
Salah has only ever failed to score or assist in two of his 14 Premier League games against Brighton, and the Reds suffered defeat on both occasions, a 1-0 loss at Anfield in 2020-21 before a 3-0 beatdown at the Amex in the 2022-23 campaign.
Salah’s third defeat versus the Seagulls came in the FA Cup third round in the latter season, although he did provide the assist for Harvey Elliott before the then-holders fell to a 2-1 defeat.
In terms of playmaking, Brighton are the Liverpool’s winger’s favourite opponent, as his tally of seven assists is his most against a single team – Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle United are next on his list with six each.
