Thomas Frank provides Yoane Wissa injury update ahead of Brentford’s clash with Man United

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank provides an update on Yoane Wissa’s injury recovery ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has revealed that Yoane Wissa could be available for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Bees went into the international period in 11th position after winning three, drawing one and losing three of their seven Premier League matches.

After going three games without a win, Brentford claimed a much-needed victory in their final outing before the two-break.

The Bees produced a free-scoring display to record a 5-3 victory in an entertaining affair against struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Brentford managed to rack up five goals despite being without the services of Wissa, who has sat out the last four competitive matches with an ankle injury.

The 28-year-old was also forced to miss DR Congo’s two Africa Cup of Nations fixtures against Tanzania during the recent international window.

Frank has now revealed that Wissa could return for Saturday’s Premier League contest, although a final decision is yet to be made on his availability.

The Brentford boss told reporters: “Wissa is training on the grass with the team which is positive. I need to find out if he is ready for Saturday or if it is too soon.”

If he is passed fit, Wissa would add some real firepower to Brentford’s frontline after scoring three goals and providing one assist in his four Premier League appearances this season.

Jensen, Thiago to miss Man United clash

Mikkel Damsgaard and Christian Norgaard have both been passed fit despite missing Denmark’s UEFA Nations League matches against Spain and Switzerland due to injury.

However, Frank has confirmed that midfielder Mathias Jensen and forward Igor Thiago remain sidelined for Saturday’s away trip.

“Mathi is training very well and training with the team,” Frank added. “It’s just too soon to risk him but it’s looking very positive for Ipswich.

“Igor is a big character positively. It’s still a bit early for him to be involved.”

The Bees are also without the services of Aaron Hickey, Joshua Dasilva, Gustavo Nunes and Rico Henry, although the latter has stepped up his recovery from a long-term knee injury.
