Man United transfer news: Red Devils quartet ‘left in limbo’ over contract situations

Manchester United are reportedly still in the process of deciding the futures of four first-team players who are set to become free agents in the summer.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United have reportedly failed to make any concrete decisions over the futures of four first-team players who see their contracts expire in the summer.

The Red Devils have endured a tricky start to the 2024-25 campaign, collecting just eight points from their first seven matches, meaning that they sit 14th in the Premier League standings.

As a result, head coach Erik ten Hag is currently under a lot of pressure at the Theatre of Dreams, with the Dutchman linked to a departure in the near future.

The summer transfer window was used to mould the Red Devils squad into the image of the 54-year-old boss, with former Ajax players Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui joining from Bayern Munich.

Despite this, the old guard continue to do the heavy lifting for Man United, as Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans started at centre-back for the goalless draw at Aston Villa on October 6.

Man United quartet left in limbo?

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are yet to make any genuine moves to sort out the futures of four first-team stars.

The report claims that the Red Devils are still yet to decide the fates of goalkeeper Tom Heaton, Evans, Victor Lindelof and Denmark international Christian Eriksen.

It is understood that Man United were looking to offload centre-back Lindelof permanently over the summer, although an injury to the Swede prevented a switch.

Former Burnley shot-stopper Heaton is the third-choice option for Ten Hag behind starting ‘keeper Andre Onana and deputy Altay Bayindir.

Eriksen has provided six goal contributions at the start of this season across eight appearances but turns 33 in February, with Man United targeting a refresh in midfield.

Man United face two-player dilemma

As well as the aforementioned quartet, Maguire and Amad Diallo will see their contracts expire at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.

However, Man United have the option to extend both of their deals by a further 12 months, meaning they are more likely to remain at Old Trafford.

It is believed that the Red Devils are planning to offer former Sunderland loanee Diallo a new contract to bring his salary in line with his role as a first-team regular.
