Man United boss Erik ten Hag ‘ignored’ Red Devils player for two weeks after arrival

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag allegedly did not speak to goalkeeper Altay Bayindir for two weeks after his arrival at the club last summer.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag allegedly did not speak to Altay Bayindir for two weeks after his arrival at the club.

Bayindir joined Man United from Fenerbahce in September 2023, with the Turkey international arriving as back-up to Andre Onana, who joined during the same transfer window.

The 26-year-old only made one appearance for Man United last season, while he has also only featured once this term, with Onana firmly the number one between the sticks for the 20-time English champions.

According to Football Insider, Ten Hag did not speak to Bayindir for two weeks after his arrival, with the goalkeeper not introduced to or greeted by his new manager in the early stages of his Red Devils career.

The report claims that Bayindir was only dealing with Man United’s goalkeeping coaches for the first couple of weeks, and he did not have a single conversation with Ten Hag for more than a fortnight.

Bayindir ‘could leave’ Man United next summer

Bayindir arrived at Old Trafford off the back of making 145 appearances for Fenerbahce, but he is set to once again struggle for action this season unless Onana picks up an injury.

The goalkeeper did play the full 90 minutes of the EFL Cup clash with Barnsley in the middle of September, though, and he will also hope to be between the sticks for the game against Leicester City in the same competition on October 30.

There is currently speculation surrounding Bayindir’s future, with the Turkey international believed to be considering pushing for an exit next summer in order to be a number one at another club.

Who could replace Bayindir at Man United?

Man United are believed to be huge admirers of Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, with the Englishman allegedly viewed as a potential number two to Onana, should Bayindir move on next summer.

Patterson has been in strong form for Sunderland this season, keeping five clean sheet in nine Championship appearances, and the 24-year-old is said to be on Man United’s radar.

Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic‘s Sam Tickle is also thought to be attracting the attention of the 20-time English champions.

Tickle, 22, has kept seven clean sheets in 10 League One appearances this season, and he is also thought to be interesting Arsenal, with Wigan seemingly facing a huge task when it comes to keeping hold of the goalkeeper, who only signed a new long-term contract with his current side in May 2024.

Tom Heaton is currently the number three goalkeeper at Old Trafford, but he is out of contract next June and is widely expected to retire in order to join the coaching staff at the club.
