SURE ODDS BANNER

The latest winner of the prestigious Ballon d’Or will be crowned before the end of the month.

The nominees for the award were announced at the start of September, and the winner will be determined by the performances of each individual player over the period of August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have famously dominated the Ballon d’Or, with the former picking up the award on eight previous occasions, while the latter has won it five times.

Neither have been nominated for this year’s award, though, and it will be fascinating to see which player triumphs when the results are revealed.

Ballon d’Or 2024 favourites

There are two clear favourites for the award, with Vinicius Junior just ahead of Rodri, while Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal and Lamine Yamal are potential outsiders.

Vinicius was in sensational form for Real Madrid during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring 24 goals and registering 11 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions, helping Los Blancos to win a La Liga and Champions League double.

Rodri, meanwhile, enjoyed an outstanding 2023-24 season for Man City, scoring nine goals and registering 14 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions, and he then helped Spain win Euro 2024.

The midfielder had to be substituted at the interval of the final against England through injury, but he was instrumental to La Roja triumphing in Germany, and he is Vinicius’ only serious challenger.

Rodri enjoyed the greater international success over the summer, with Vinicius’ Brazil only reaching the quarter-finals of the Copa America, but his club form last season could see him land the trophy for the first time.

Bellingham enjoyed a stunning 2023-24 season for Real Madrid, scoring 23 goals and registering 13 assists in 42 appearances, but his difficulties for England at Euro 2024 will likely count against him.
