SURE ODDS BANNER

Aiming to keep their unbeaten record at their base intact, Burnley will welcome Preston North End to Turf Moor for a Lancashire derby on Saturday afternoon in the Championship.

The Clarets recorded a hard-fought one-goal success over Plymouth Argyle earlier in the week, whilst the Lilywhites produced a statement result against a stuttering Watford side at Deepdale.

We say: Burnley 2-0 Preston North End

Unbeaten at home in the Championship so far, Burnley will be confident of recording another win at Turf Moor against one of their Lancashire rivals.

Preston have failed to earn three points on the road in the second tier during 2024-25, and we do not expect their maiden away success to arrive at the home of a promotion favourite on Saturday afternoon.

Norwich City and Hull City square off at Carrow Road on Saturday with both teams having finally found some form in the Championship.

These two teams sit in ninth and 10th position in the standings respectively having each put together three-game undefeated runs.

We say: Norwich City 2-2 Hull City

Everything points to this contest being an entertaining fixture with both teams playing well enough to earn maximum points. However, we must respect Norwich’s long-standing unbeaten run at Carrow Road, predicting a share of the spoils that they would ultimately be disappointed with.

Two newly-promoted sides will face off when Portsmouth welcome Oxford United to Fratton Park for Saturday’s Championship contest.

Pompey are languishing in 23rd spot with four points to their name, while the visitors are in 11th place with 11 points to their name.

We say: Portsmouth 1-1 Oxford United

Portsmouth will be desperate to claim their first win of the season before the international break, but we think the hosts will have to settle for a draw against an Oxford side who have seen their last two matches finish all square.

Coventry City Manager Mark Robins on August 31, 2024© Imago

Both sat level on eight points at the bottom end of the Championship table, Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday will do battle at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday.

The two sides met on four occasions last season, with the hosts winning three times across the Championship and FA Cup.

We say: Coventry City 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have certainly shown their resilience in the last week to bounce back from a dismal run with two pleasing results and should certainly make it tough for their hosts on Saturday.

Coventry, however, could kick into gear after a dominant display in midweek, and we see Mark Robins’s side carrying the renewed confidence from that triumph into another three-point haul at the weekend thanks to the abundance of quality in their ranks.

Aiming to avoid a fourth straight defeat in the second tier, Derby County will welcome a struggling Queens Park Rangers side to Pride Park on Saturday afternoon for an important Championship clash.

The Rams were second best in the North-East against promotion-chasing Sunderland earlier in the week, whilst the R’s were unable to get the better of Hull City in West London.

We say: Derby County 2-1 Queens Park Rangers

Winning three of their four Championship home matches so far, Derby will be confident of earning maximum points against an out-of-form QPR side this weekend.

The R’s are struggling with a number of injury issues and are likely to suffer their third straight defeat as they visit Pride Park on Saturday afternoon.

Blackburn Rovers make the long trip to Plymouth Argyle looking to bounce back from experiencing their first Championship defeat of the season.

At a time when the visitors sit in sixth position in the standings, Plymouth head into Saturday’s encounter occupying 18th position.

We say: Plymouth Argyle 1-2 Blackburn Rovers

With Plymouth holding a strong home record under Rooney, Blackburn will be up against it to bounce back with a win. Nevertheless, we are backing Rovers to prevail from a hard-fought contest, potentially through a late goal when Plymouth are pushing at the other end.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder on September 21, 2024© Imago

Two sides sat at opposite ends of the Championship table after their Premier League relegation last time around will square off on Saturday, as Sheffield United welcome Luton Town to Bramall Lane.

The hosts climbed up to third spot and extended their unbeaten start to the league season with a win on Wednesday, while their visitors sit 20th following a disappointing midweek draw.

We say: Sheffield United 1-0 Luton Town

While Luton Town certainly competed better in the Premier League than Saturday’s hosts last time around, it is Sheffield United who have quickly taken to life back in the Championship.

With momentum on their side and home advantage for an important contest, we see the Blades extending their unbeaten start and eye-catching defensive record at the weekend.

Stoke City manager Narcis Pelach on September 20, 2024© Imago

Swansea City and Stoke City square off in South Wales on Saturday afternoon occupying spots in mid-table of the Championship standings.

While Swansea have just seen an unbeaten run come to an end, Stoke have recorded one of the standout victories in the division during 2024-25.

We say: Swansea City 1-2 Stoke City

Backing up a six-goal showing in midweek is likely to be difficult for Stoke, particularly with Pelach still attempting to prove himself. Nevertheless, the superior firepower of the visitors could see them edge this contest by the odd goal in three.

Watford manager Tom Cleverley on September 24, 2024© Imago

Watford play host to Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon with both clubs looking for the victory that could see them move into the top six of the Championship standings.

While the Hornets have been impressive at Vicarage Road this season, Middlesbrough have earned their best result of the campaign on their travels.

We say: Watford 2-1 Middlesbrough

Although Middlesbrough will be on a high from their win at West Brom, a second away test in quick succession may be a tough ask. With that in mind, we feel that Watford may edge this fixture by the odd goal in three, even with having less recovery time.

Following a rare defeat in the Black Country earlier in the week, West Bromwich Albion will look to respond as Millwall arrive at The Hawthorns for a Championship clash on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies were narrowly defeated by Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, whilst the Lions produced a below-par performance in South Wales, losing to basement dwellers Cardiff City.

We say: West Bromwich Albion 2-0 Millwall

After a rare home defeat to Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, West Brom should be significantly stronger this weekend with the likes of Mikey Johnston, Fellows and Jayson Molumby potentially entering the starting XI.

Millwall have little options to freshen up their attacking ranks after drawing a blank at Cardiff last time out, so we are anticipating another difficult outing for the Lions.
