SURE ODDS BANNER

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a stellar start to the 2024-25 campaign in the Dutch top flight for the Eindhoven-based club, who are yet to taste defeat domestically.

Veerman has appeared in and started seven Eredivisie matches for PSV so far this term, finding the net once and providing five assists from midfield.

The engine-room enforcer also possesses international pedigree, having represented the Netherlands extensively over the summer at Euro 2024 in Germany.

Liverpool join race for PSV’s Veerman?

According to Give Me Sport via the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are interested in securing the services of PSV’s Veerman during the upcoming January trading point.

The report claims that the 25-year-old is attracting admirers from the Anfield-based club, who are on the lookout for defensive-midfield reinforcements.

That being said, it is understood that the Reds face major competition in their pursuit of the 16-time international during the calendar year of 2025.

It is believed that both Arsenal and Newcastle United are also eyeing up an ambitious swoop for the Dutchman in the near future, meaning that a bidding war could be on the cards.

With Veerman’s current contract at Philips Stadion expiring during the summer of 2026, PSV are in a good position to drive a hard bargain for the player.

Does Liverpool’s midfield require improvements?

With Manchester City dropping points on the weekend, Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers was enough to take them to the summit of the Premier League standings.

Things have started swimmingly for new head coach Arne Slot, who has successfully deployed Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch as a double pivot at the base of the Reds’ midfield.

Liverpool made the acquisition of a midfielder their main priority over the summer window but ultimately failed to lure Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi to Anfield.

Although the Reds are supposedly willing to reopen their pursuit of the Euro 2024 winner, Veerman represents a good alternative option in Janaury.
