Ipswich Town announce fresh four-year contract for 22-year-old star

Ipswich Town announce that young goalkeeper Cieran Slicker has signed a new four-year deal at Portman Road, committing him to the Tractor Boys until the summer of 2028.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Ipswich Town have announced a new four-year deal for goalkeeper Cieran Slicker.

The 22-year-old made the switch to Portman Road from the academy of Premier League champions Manchester City during the summer window of 2023.

Slicker has made two first-team appearances for Ipswich, both arriving in last campaign’s edition of the EFL Cup during the early rounds of the competition.

The youngster kept a clean sheet in the victory over League One outfit Bristol Rovers, before saving a penalty in a shootout against Reading later in the tournament.

Whilst on the books of the East Anglian side, Slicker has represented Scotland Under-21s, featuring recently in matches against Spain and Malta.

“Feel at home” – Slicker happy to extend Ipswich stay

With Slicker tipped to have a big future at the club, Ipswich have announced that the youngster has signed a new four-year contract at Portman Road.

As a result, the 22-year-old will be contracted to the Premier League newcomers until at least the conclusion of the 2027-28 campaign.

Speaking to the club’s in-house media on Monday afternoon in East Anglia, Slicker said: “The club has put trust in me which is a real positive.”

“I have only been here a year but the relationships I have built during that time have made me feel at home. Since I walked into the club, everyone has been brilliant with me.

“I think I have improved a lot and my development is on an upward trajectory. I know it is going to take a lot of hard work to keep going and keep pushing to where I want to get to. There is a big season ahead and I am really excited for it.”

Slicker’s route to the first team

Despite signing a long-term contract at the club, Slicker will not be expecting to feature at all in the Premier League for the Tractor Boys this season.

The Scotland youth international is firmly behind Arijanet Muric and Christian Walton in the goalkeeping pecking order for Kieran McKenna.

Slicker is likely to be loaned out in the near future to an EFL club as a way of proving himself further and gaining valuable experience of playing regularly at first-team level.
