Transfer news and rumours today: One in, one out at Wolves? Doak’s Liverpool future

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours, including Daniel Podence’s likely Wolverhampton Wanderers exit and a loan move for Liverpool’s Ben Doak.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Daniel Podence is reportedly on the brink of moving to the Saudi Pro League.

Upon his return from a loan stint with Olympiacos, the expectation had been that Podence would return to Greece or go elsewhere.

Instead, the 28-year-old has been reintegrated into the squad and started Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie against Burnley, a game in which he impressed.

However, as per Sky Sports News, Podence is closing in on a transfer to Al Shabab in a deal worth in the region of £5m plus add-ons.

Gary O’Neil confirmed in a press conference on Friday that terms were in place for the Portuguese to move to the Middle East.

Podence will exit Molineux having contributed 16 goals and nine assists from his 108 appearances in all competitions.

Wolves still pushing for Forbs?

Ever since Wolves sold Pedro Neto to Chelsea, it has been alleged on several occasions that Ajax winger Carlos Forbs had been identified as a replacement.

Forbs left Manchester City for Amsterdam last summer and has subsequently gone on to make 38 outings for the Dutch giants, albeit chipping in with just three strikes and five assists.

On Friday afternoon, David Ornstein of The Athletic alleged that Wolves had proceeded with an approach for the 20-year-old, who is now in line to undergo a medical at Molineux.

Wolves are said to be ready to sign the Portuguese on a season-long loan that will come with the option to buy for £11.4m.

As it stands, it is unclear whether Forbs will be regarded as a straight replacement for Podence, with the future of Chiquinho also up in the air despite his performance in the EFL Cup in midweek.

While Forbs did not make a Premier League appearance for City, a total of 22 goals and 12 assists came from 35 games for the Under-21s in Premier League 2.

Staying on the topic of young wingers and it appears that Liverpool‘s Ben Doak will soon be plying his trade in the Championship.

Doak was able to rack up five senior outings for Liverpool last season before the teenager suffered a serious knee injury midway through the campaign.

The 18-year-old remains highly-rated at Anfield, yet the decision has been made for the Scotland Under-21 international to continue his development elsewhere.

According to Sky Sports News, Middlesbrough have fended off a number of Championship rivals to acquire the services of the playmaker on a temporary basis.

As many as seven clubs were allegedly in the race for his signature but he will now hope to earn football on a weekly basis under Michael Carrick.
