Arsenal ‘unlikely’ to sign Raheem Sterling, Kingsley Coman before transfer deadline

Arsenal are reportedly unlikely to sign a new attacker before the transfer deadline despite links with Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling and Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman.

SURE ODDS BANNER

Arsenal are reportedly not expected to sign a new attacker amid links with Chelsea‘s Raheem Sterling and Bayern Munich‘s Kingsley Coman.

Sterling has been made available for transfer after being deemed surplus to requirements by Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca.

The Gunners have been one of the teams linked with Sterling’s signature due to Mikel Arteta’s strong relationship with the player from his time working at Manchester City.

Arsenal have also been mooted as a potential destination for Bayern’s Coman, who is believed to be open to a fresh challenge away from the Allianz Arena.

A recent report claimed that the Gunners were exploring the possibility of signing the Frenchman in the closing stages of the transfer window.

Arsenal unlikely to sign new attacker

However, according to Sky Sports News, Arsenal are unlikely to strengthen their attacking options before the 11pm deadline.

The update claims that Arsenal were exploring the possibility of signing a new wide forward, but they appear to have given up the search at this late stage of the window.

As a result, the North London club are not expected to make any late moves to sign Sterling or Coman in the final hours of the market.

Sterling faces the risk of staying at Chelsea and not playing any competitive football until the new year, while Coman will focus on his campaign with Vincent Kompany‘s Bayern side.

Will Arsenal be left short in wide areas?

The Gunners have strengthened their squad this summer, securing permanent deals for goalkeeper David Raya, defender Riccardo Calafiori and midfielder Mikel Merino.

They have been looking at signing a new winger as well as a new centre-forward, but they are set to end the transfer window without strengthening their attacking options.

In regards to their wide options, Arteta will have to share the workload with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Reiss Nelson.

While they have some quality options in wide areas, they may rue the decision not to sign an attacker if any of their wingers struggle with injuries between now and January.
